Consumer Bill of Rights

Overview:

The following Consumer Bill of Rights applies to situations where Jon Towing impounds a vehicle at the direction
of a property owner (Personal Property Impound or PPI). This includes scenarios such as vehicles parked illegally
on private property, like in a reserved spot at an apartment building.
Please note: This Consumer Bill of Rights does not apply when a vehicle is impounded by order of a police agency
due to violations of law. In such cases, Jon Towing acts under the authority of the Municipality of Anchorage
(MOA) and is not the responsible party for impound decisions.

Rights at the Time of Tow:

If you approach your vehicle before or during the towing process, you are entitled to:

  • Receive a copy of this Consumer Bill of Rights from the tow operator.
  • Obtain a curb release Fee if your vehicle is unhooked or unattached, provided you can immediately correct
    the parking violation.
  • Obtain a curb release Fee if your vehicle is hooked or attached to the tow truck, provided you can
    immediately correct the parking violation.
  • Make payment using cash, debit card, or credit card

You are not entitled to a curb release if:

  • You are unable to pay the curb release Fee.
  • You cannot correct the parking violation immediately.
  • The vehicle transport has already commenced.
  • The tow operator believes the person intending to operate the vehicle is under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Rights After Your Vehicle Has Been Towed:

If your vehicle has been towed from private property to a storage yard, you have the right to:

  • Access your vehicle once, without charge, to retrieve any emergency items or animals, provided you have
    proof of ownership or authorization from the registered owner.
  • Be charged an after-hours vehicle access fee if you need to access your vehicle outside of regular business
    hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).

When retrieving your vehicle from the storage yard, you are entitled to receive:

  • A copy of the written authorization to tow your vehicle from the property owner.
  • Photographs documenting the parking violation.
  • An invoice detailing the towing and storage fees, including:
    • Vehicle make, model, VIN, and license plate number.
    • Grounds for towing.
    • Time the vehicle was first observed in violation.
    • Time the vehicle was towed.
    • An itemized list of fees.

Tow operators are prohibited from:

  • Coercing payments or waivers from vehicle owners who are exercising their rights

Towing and Storage Rates:

Tow and Transport:

  • Charges will apply based on the type and weight of the vehicle.
  • After-hours release fees and vehicle access fees may apply.
  • Storage charges may begin after a specific period following the vehicle’s arrival at the storage
    yard.

Important: Jon Towing will not impose any additional penalties or fees beyond those necessary for the services provided.
